Pack 285 Newsletter

*Pinewood Derby- Saturday Jan. 10th- St. Johns Church (Host: Webelos 1)

                Registration opens at 9am and will close at 9:50am with races beginning at 10am. If you are planning on participating in the Pinewood Derby you will need to make sure you are in line for registration no later than 9:45am.

                If anyone is available to help set up we will be at the church Friday Jan. 9th at 6:30pm. Anyone that helps set up will also be able to do a test run before you leave.

*Pack Meeting/Arrow of Light- Tuesday Jan. 27 7pm- St. Johns Church

* Shirley Hills Carnival- Friday Jan. 30th

                The pack will again help out in the first aid room. A sign up will be created and sent out closer to the event.

* Blue and Gold- Saturday Feb. 28th

Parent meetings : Wednesday Jan. 7th and 28th 7pm at St. Johns

*** Important***

The pack is looking for a Committee Chair person ASAP. Mon. Dec. 8th- Pack Meeting, St. John’s Lutheran Church, 7:00 – 8:00 PM

 *Caroling and Bowling

Saturday, Dec. 6- 10:30am-1pm, Presbyterian Homes and Delano Lanes

Please join the Pack on Saturday, December 6 for some fun caroling and bowling. We will meet in the lobby of Presbyterian Homes at 10:20 and start caroling at 10:30 sharp. After caroling we will head over to Delano Lanes to bowl with the pack, we have lanes reserved from 11:30-1:30. Please let you Den leader know ASAP if you are attending in these festivities.

 *December Pack Meeting (Host: Bears)

Monday , Dec. 8 -St. John’s Lutheran Church, 7:00 – 8:00 PM We will be holding our Toys for Tots drive again, so please bring a little something for our collection. Bears and their families please arrive around 6:40pm to help set up.

Saturday, Nov. 15- 9am-11am, Chanhassan, MN
Please join the Pack on Saturday, November 15, from 9:00-11:00am.  This will be an experience you will never forget and make you feel very fortunate to be able to have food on the table every day. To register go to http://volunteer.fmsc.org/Register/site/FindGroup.aspx?command=searchforjoinpermanent&mode=5#.VDQGC50o4dU   and enter  the group name  “pack 285”. Please remember when signing up to sign both yourself and your child(ren) up. Parents must accompany their child(ren). They are located at 18732 Lake Drive East, Chanhassen, MN 55317, right next to Jump and Jams. Please wear comfortable close toed shoes. Also if you are willing and able please join us in making a donation individually as the pack will make one too.
IMPORTANT CHILD TO PARENT RATIOS: Grade K-2: 1 student to 1 adult Grade 3-6: 3 students to 1 adult
Please sign up by Nov. 7  if at all possible as they will want to fill any open spots that we don't use.  We will release spots slowly starting Nov. 8. Any questions, please contact Kami at kamkimball@aol.com  or 612-280-5026.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!! Don’t miss this FUN event.  Come in a fun costume.  Remember to turn in your wreath sales folder/money and remember to register for next year. Next year membership is due... 24.00 for next year and an optional 12.00 for boyscout magazine. All Webelos 1 boys and parents should arrive at 6:40 to help set up for the meeting.

District Roundtable

Thursday, November 6, 7 – 8:30pm, Minnetonka Community Center

 

Monthly district roundtable meetings provide an information and training forum to adults involved as leaders in scouting.  Meetings take place the first Thursday of each month at the Minnetonka Community Center, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd., Minnetonka, MN 55345

Back to School Potluck-

 Friday Sept. 5th 5-7pm.  Back to School Potluck at Shirley Hills.  We will have a table set up recruiting new scouts to our Pack.  If you have a small block of time we can use help at our table handing out information and answering questions.  New scouts will receive a free model rocket kit.  We will have kits available for purchase for current members needing a new rocket, $3 small and $5 for large.  If you joined last year and did not receive a kit please see Cubmaster Mike Nelson.

 

Parent Planning Meeting-

 Wednesday Sept. 10th 7-8pm.  Parent Planning Meeting at St. Johns in the Gathering Room.  All parents are welcome and encouraged to attend as we plan out the details for upcoming events.


Recruiting Night-

 Thursday Sept. 18th 7-8pm.  Rocket Into Scouting!  at Shirley Hills & OLL.  This is the big recruiting event night the entire Northern Star Council has organized and will have mass amounts of advertising on.  If interested in helping please contact Mike Nelson 612-483-8661.

 

Rocket Launch-

 Saturday Sept. 20th 11am-2pm.  Rocket Launch at Shirley Hills ball fields.  Our annual event of launching model rockets and welcoming in new scouts to the Pack.  Each scout will receive engines for two launches.  Additional engines will be available at a minimal cost.  Pack 297 from Hilltop will be joining us as well.

September Pack Meeting (Host: Webelos II)

 Tuesday Sept. 23rd 7-8pm.  Our FIRST 2014 Pack Meeting will be at St. Johns. Our first pack meeting will at the outdoor chapel, weather providing.  Hot Dogs will be provided by the pack starting at 6:30pm, to help with dinner we are asking for families to bring a side dish, chips, or dessert to include in the meal.  We will kick off the new year with welcoming new families, handing out our wreath sales fundraiser and games for the scouts.

 

Family Campout-

 Sat-Sun October 4-5th Family Campout.  Our fall overnight campout will be on October 4th starting at 3:30pm going to 10:30am on Sunday morning.  We will be camping in the Lake Rebecca Park Reserve South Group Camp site.  Boys from Troop 571 will be joining us again for our event.

Don’t miss this FUN event. Come to Pack Meetings early (6:30pm) for hot dog dinner. We ask families that are joining in the dinner to bring a side dish to share with the pack.

Contact Melissa Pickert, Committee Chair.  Orders and names/ranks of scouts returning next year must be submitted by Friday May. 23 by NOON.

 

Memorial Weekend events

Sat. May 24th and Mon. May 26. More information, times and places to follow. Any questions please as pack leaders.

 

Family Overnight Campout

Sat. May 31, Half Moon in Baker Park Reserve. Set up time is 3:30-4:30 with flag ceremony to start at 5:00. Scouts are to be in Class A uniform for the flag ceremony and then to wear class B under for remaining events. Please sign up with you pack leader if you are planning on attending so we can be sure to supply food and arrange activities accordingly.

 

Open Positions for Pack

There are two positions that are needing to be filled for the next year pack. We are looking for Chair for Recruiting and a Den Leader for the Lions that will be joining next year.

Shirley Hills Carnival

Sat. April 26, Cub scouts have the opportunity of running the first aid room at this event. We will have a sign up at the pack meeting table, as well as a sign up genius page for volunteers that are interested. Boys scouts should wear their class A uniforms while volunteering in the first aid room.

PACK 385 BLUE AND GOLD BANQUET

Saturday Feb. 22nd from 5:00pm-8:00pm

This event is open to the whole family. The pack with provide Taco Bar dinner, Entertainment and Fun. Be sure to stop at the front table and get a raffle ticket for some great prizes. Also this event is thrown by the pack and no money is needed, however the Board decided to have a donation bucket to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Please RSVP to your den leader ASAP with the number of family members that will be attending. If you have any questions please let us know.


2014 Pinewood Derby Schedule & Setup Night

Gentleman, start your engines!!!!
It's time again for the Pinewood Derby.  Attached is this year's schedule, please note the registration deadline for your son according to his rank.   
 
Setup Night 1/24/14
We need your help for setup on Friday January 24th starting at 6pm.  Then at 6:45 we'll have Pizza and Floats available for volunteers.  The bonus for helping out is once we have the track assembled and ready we are alowing scouts to take one or two test runs on the official track.  Also our scales will be available for weighing the cars that night.
